About

The First Note

Every masterpiece starts with a decision to simply try.  Those first notes may be challenging to conquer, but what they lead to is worth the sacrifice.

Teach In Harmony

"Education in music is most sovereign because more than anything else rhythm and harmony find their way to the inmost soul and take strongest hold upon it.  Bringing with them and imparting grace if one is rightly trained." - Plato

The Importance of Music

"Music provides unique and invaluable insights into the human condition.  Music allows us to know, discover, understand, experience, share, or express such aspects of the human condition as feelings, aesthetic experiences, the ineffable, thoughts, structure, time and space, self- knowledge, self- identity, group identity, and healing and wholeness." - Donald A. Hodges

Robert Gailey Music Instruction Policy and Contract

Tuition: Rates vary depending on the course you enroll, see Programs page.  Payment for lessons is due on or before the first lesson of each month. To gain the most benefits of studying with me it is highly recommended that the student take a minimum of six months of lessons.

Lesson Attendance: Each student in the studio is entitled to four or five lessons each month, at the same time each week. If the student has legitimate reason to cancel the lesson and I am given at least 24 hours advance notice, the student and I will arrange a make-up lesson. If a student does not give me the required advance notice (barring extenuating circumstances: IE injury, disaster, etc) it results in a “no-show” and the lesson will get paid for without a make-up lesson. If the student accumulates three consecutive no-shows, their lesson time will be offered to other interested students. No tuition refunds will ever be issued. In the event that I am unable to teach a lesson, I will return the same courtesy of 24 hours advance notice and there will be a make-up lesson.

Make -up lessons: If one or more lessons are missed during a monthly cycle, make up lessons will be done on an availability-of-schedule basis. Regularly scheduled lesson times will not be used as make-ups. Make-up lessons can be scheduled whenever the student and I can meet. Credits toward proceeding months will only be given for cancellations in which I got 24 hour notice.

Practicing: Practicing is vital in the development of any skill, especially music. Practice may include anything that contributes to the learning of music and guitar (depending on the course). For example: listening to guitarist, practicing and sight reading, researching the history of pieces, going to live performances, focusing on new techniques, etc. I will ask each student to report his/her practice time each week and we will go over the things assigned in the previous lesson.

Discontinuance of lessons: If there is need to discontinue lessons, I request that notification be given at the beginning of the month (barring extenuating circumstances: IE injury, disaster, etc). Failure to do so will require tuition to be paid for the month in which lessons were dropped abruptly. Examples: Student notifies me on May 24th that they will not be taking lessons in June (good). Student notifies me on May 15th that they will not be taking lessons for the rest of the month (bad). That student is required to pay for the rest of the lessons in May.

Location: Lessons are taught either virtually or in your home.
